ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Our Commitment to the Environment
At Merlin Shredding, environmental sustainability is one of our highest priorities as we recycle 100% of all the paper that we shred. Our company is also entirely paperless and offices are made entirely of recycled and repurposed building material. Last year alone we shredded and recycled over 658 metric tons of paper and in the process saved 11,186 trees.
However, our impact on the environment is more than just saving trees. What many don’t realize is that the process to turn trees into paper requires a significant amount of energy and water and also adds significant pollutants into our air. Consider this: recycling just one ton of paper saves about 7,000 gallons of water and 4,100 kilowatt hours of electricity.
LAST YEAR WE SAVED:
11186
trees
1974
cubic yards of landfill
4606000
gallons of water
1316
gallons of oil stopped
2697800
kilowatts of electricity
39480
pounds of air pollutants
GREEN CERTIFIED
In addition to our commitment to recycling we are also subscribed to the “Green Certified Business” rating by www.GreenCertifiedWeb.org. That means Merlin Shredding is an “Eco-Friendly” business which “has integrated sustainable processes into their business and is committed to doing even more to preserve natural resources in their day-to-day business practice.”
Reducing our Carbon Footprint through Shredding Trucks
Upgrades have been made to on-site shredding trucks which include:
Idle-down switches: these switches lower the idle on our trucks to save fuel and energy during the shredding process.
Eco-friendly oils and lubricants are used in all vehicles: we use a high-performance synthetic engine oil causing increased cleanliness, fuel economy and reduced emissions.
Recycling of Containers
All collection containers are recycled in a variety of ways:
Repurposed for other uses including collecting bottles and cans, and other recycling for companies or residences
Broken down & used for parts to repair and maintain containers that are currently in service
Recycled to create products
Helping other companies with their Carbon Footprint
Start recycling program to recycle their paper.
Upgrade their current recycling program by teaching them to use larger containers and less frequent pick-ups. Reducing the number of times trucks visit their business.
Using an EFT payment system and electronic billing to cut down on paper.
