What NOT to Shred!
Cleaning out our working spaces can be a messy process itself. Organization is the end goal, but the journey to a clean slate involves digging through dusty old stacks of papers, going through archived files, sorting through items and choosing what you would like to throw away, and countless other steps.
At Merlin, we take care of your paper disposal in a secure manner. This is to prevent information theft, as sensitive information is easily accessible to the wrong hands once they leave private property.
So, when it is time to tidy up those stacks of papers sitting in your desks, we understand that the cleaning process could range from a weekly cleanup to a major overhaul of your space. Much like waste disposal, we encourage our clients to be wary when sorting their waste. This is to be efficient with everyone’s time. Our shredding machine will thank you!
Here are some pointers.
Separate printed documents from electronics. While we provide services for both, it is important to let us know that you have a mix of items to get rid of! The process for destroying a USB is very different from an old notebook. Failing to remove electronics also may pose a risk of fire or explosion during the shredding process.
Remove binders, hardcovers, and laminated paper from the rest of your pile when possible. The texture for such items involve a plastic that cannot be recycled the same way as regular paper does. However, our shredding services are able to parse through smaller items such as staples and paper clips.
Inquire about shredding cardboard. We do not recommend shredding cardboard in the same load as paper. Not all professional paper shredders will shred cardboard as it does require a different type of machine than typical paper shredders. Consider repurposing cardboard boxes if needed.
Avoid throwing garbage in paper shredding bins. Leave the waste where it belongs- in the trash can! We know it’s tempting to take shortcuts in life, but throwing your waste in the correct place is essential to the environment, the efficiency of our shredding machines, and keeping any foul stenches at bay.
There are YouTube channels that are dedicated to experimenting with objects to see “will it blend” or sliming! Unfortunately, Merlin Shredding is not interested in hosting an episode of “Will It Shred?” anytime soon, but you can always watch that on YouTube!
